  • Time flies. It's been another month.

It is already Nov 7. Only four weeks are remaining on the teaching schedule. Can you believe this?

Last month I made a trip to Vietnam, as you guys already know. I just want to say once again how much that means to me. Life isn't easy for a 2X-year-old like me (well basically for everyone living in HK). All kinds of pressure seem to crush and overwhelm you every moment. So I told myself I must get away, albeit just for a little while. After the rest and the fun in Vietnam I got re-charged and now I am ready for more work and more pressure. As the saying goes, "rest is for going further miles" (休息,是為了走更遠的路).

One interesting fact about Vietnam I did not tell you in class is that many government officers called "Tourist Security" are on the streets in the city center. Their duty, interestingly, is only to help tourists cross the street, because the vehicles do not stop at the red light and tourists will have difficulty crossing them. So if you are faced with heavy traffic, just seek help from a tourist security officer, who will accompany you to cross the street, and the traffic will miraculously all stop as the drivers see the officer.

Good luck on your essays! (I hope I didn't scare you with all the red marks I made on your essays and my "angry" tone at the consultation... )

Some additional Vietnam photos for your appreciation! Check them out on the left hand side!

I'm also plannnig to see the movie Lions for Lambs soon (perhaps this or next weekend). Anyone interested? Anyone who's already seen it?

  • Have you seen a movie lately??

Recently I've been to a few movies, including "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" and "Simpsons". The latest one is "Lust, Caution" (色戒).

Although the last movie contains scenes of nudity, I still recommend it to all of you (You guys are all adults, right?) It has a wonderful story, well-developed and packed with events. It is set against the background of Japanese invasion of China during WWII. A group of patriotic, hot-headed HK students plot the assasination of a Chinese collaborationalist (Tony Leung), and in the end the plot fails and all of them get killed. Strangely, Tong Leung and one of the assassins, Tang Wei, develop a special relationship through a number of passionate encounters. Would you call it love? Or is it purely physical? I'm waiting for you to shed light on this question.

It is too bad if you go to see this movie it won't be counted in the portfolio, as it is not an English movie. Anyway, it is worth seeing and provides good food for thought.

I'm a big movie fan. Though I've been busy, I still try my best to watch as many movies as possible. Let's watch one (in English) together next time and talk about it. Maybe it can help with writing your journals!

    See you all in class!

  • thank you for the response

Wow... it took me a while to read through all these great comments you'd left here. Thank you for sharing all your feelings. I understand how you feel about studying at HKCC. But don't forget this may be only a stop in your life which can lead you to other destinations. I am new to this school myself, and I must say in the first few weeks or so I didn't enjoy teaching here due to all these complicated administrative procedures. But now I actually start to like this school and of course the students in my FIVE classes. So, see? Things will work themselves out. Maybe it is time to adjust your mindset and hold your chin up. Enjoy!

  • Guys please feel free to post your comments! Connect with my page!

Hi guys, it is nice for me to be your teacher this term. Hope we'll have a great time.

The first few weeks have been nice. We are somehow behind schedule, but later the course will go much faster. The toughest is yet to come.

Please post a comment (of about 100 words) on this page once a month. Of course you can write more or post more often than required. In order for me to recognize you, please start your message with "This is (English name) (Last name)" (eg. "This is Gerald Cheung"). For this month (Sep), maybe you can voice your feelings toward HKCC! How have the first few weeks been for you? Do you have any expectations on yourself in these two years?

Try to write in complete sentences so that you can practice your English.

Well, some of you still have questions regarding the journals. In addition to what I said in class, try to be organized and in-depth: tell me something interesting and unique about your English learning experience.

Don't forget to turn in your project outline to me as soon as possible!

Also, I'm trying my best to change the time of the two tutorials on Mon. I've asked Kate about this. She told me the procedure would be very complicated. Changing class time will require the signatures of FIVE senior staff here! But, at least, she assured me that it is thereotically possible.

See you all in class! I'll miss you.
